I have decreed that this will be the last year that I use manufactured Christmas dishes. I have talked about making my own Christmas plates for quite a while, but I haven’t done it. The dilemma is that I don’t know what I want the dishes to look like. So, I have promised to donate my current Christmas dishes to Grifton Mission Ministries after this season. That way, I don’t have any back-up plates for next year. I hope this will help me to focus my ideas and follow through on my commitment.
I admire your resolve and commitment and by golly I know that you will have a set of dishes for next Christmas… let’s start them in next session!!! I also want to congratulate you on your blog. You set out with goals and you met them. We are all the better for that… your blogs have been wonderful, fun, insightful, honest and you.

oh btw… I do have a full set of Christmas dishes… I’d rather get rid of my day to day… ahhhh,.. one of my pottery goals… that and making sure that I have Christmas in July and done by the end of September… the craziness needs to stop!
Even though you don’t have any of your own, did you make the ones pictured on the blog? I love them! Especially the snowman with snow falling. It appears that you just used slip trailing? Does that have a possibility of breaking off? Now I really want to make some cute dishes too!
I made the plates in the picture by slip trailing the design. The glaze that I used is sensitive to breaking surfaces (if you know your glazes’ attributes, you can capitalize on them). I don’t think there is much risk in chipping the design – probably need to use the plates to see how they function. Thank you for all the comments.
